Artist Statement

My work in this term is a true reflection of who I am and what kind of artist I aim to be in the future. An arsenal of artists and their styles has always inspired me to come up with an art very special to be individuality. The collection of artwork included in my e portfolio reflects my search for identity and exploration as an artist. I admire representing obscure concepts using simplistic art because it is who I am. I love to inform the audience of something that would not usually even try to understand through art that they are able to comprehend. All my ISU pieces are built keeping this purpose in mind. The vaguest looking artwork would have to be ISU #4 that portrayed the concept of the ambiguous existence of the memory of dreams. My artwork never has the ability to convey itself to the audience without an explanation and that is what distinguishes it from other artists and their artwork. The mediums that I used this term were not decided on and I let myself freely flow with the use of materials. I did not think too much, on what I exactly want, I just worked with what I had and what I could easily get. Using glass as a canvas was something I had never tried before and it helped convey my message of that particular concept of dream hacking. Moreover, artists like Bonnie Goldberg, Louise Nevelson and Typeo have played a significant role in how my art style and concept development has changed throughout my artwork pieces. I have explored a variety of styles inspired by these artists and I believe that the reference to their artwork has pushed me towards creating the type of art I create. The “Assemblages” by Nevelson had given a motif to create more 3D artwork that fell into the category of the indistinguishable art. She makes art using objects from her daily life that represent some special event or memory and puts them into a box coloring them all of a monotonous. From that point onwards, I expressed my art through 3D work and this marks my evolution from typical 2D work to 3D models. I figured out that 3D pieces were more effective in what concept I wanted to portray in comparison to 2D pieces. The hands on process of creating these 3D pieces gave me an experience that I have received never before. Additionally, since most of my ISU’s are 3D pieces, I would like to display them in an exhibition art gallery themed “The Psychology of Dreams in Art”. This would be effective since having a separate space just for my artwork will help audience realize the significant purpose behind the deep concept of dreams that a public display cannot hold.
