Sketches of the Week
These are the best picks form the collections of sketches I created throughout this Grade 12 Art course. Each of them represents an element of life, which is closely related to me as an individual.
The Clicks of Hong Kong
This piece is portrayal of the Hong Kong skyline done using acrylic medium and pencil crayons for the buildings and the technique of pointillism. I decided to use a black background so that the colors I used popped out vibrantly on the canvas. This took me a long time however the results were worth the hard work. The idea behind this piece is to show the miniature lights of Hong Kong and how tiny each one is when looked at from far distance. The purpose of using the pointillism technique to depict the small lights on all the towers we see in this amazing city.
Warmth
The title says it all for this painting when it is looked at. I have used watercolors specifically warm colors like orange, yellow, and red. Since this is a still life painting, I have tried to depict the yellow light that is falling on the objects so that let me capture the textures and values of the objects.
Walls of France
This painting is inspired by the suburbs of France since I really wish to visit them once in my life. I have used the layering technique using watercolors to do this painting since it gives the painting a fresh and subtle look, which I intended to create. By adding a splash of red in between the greenery adds a bit of contrast as well as a playful nature to the painting.
Don't cry the tears of the world
Portrays the individual self engaged in the issues of everyone else, disregarding issues of her own. The title, “don’t cry the tears of the world” speaks for itself, advising us to bring focus on our own self, achievements, and goals, instead of allowing the matters of the world change your lifestyle.
